The KITLV (Royal Netherlands Institute for Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies) has over the years combined scholarly research with the setting up of the world’s best library and special collections on the former colonies of Indonesia, Surinam and the Antilles. In 2014 her collections were transferred to the University Library Leiden. The KITLV has focused her research on Southeast Asia and the ‘Dutch’ Caribbean.

The Library of Leiden University owns very extensive collections containing scientific knowledge in print as well as digitally. The UBL also offers access to special collections of international quality. These collections support researchers and students in their work in teaching and the humanities/sciences. Its Asian Library has recently been brought into use.

The Museum of Ethnology in Leiden is a museum about peoples and cultures. In her exhibitions she presents the enormous cultural diversity of the world associated and linked with universal human themes such as mourning, celebrating, decorating, praying etc. The museum has a peranakan collection.
